My Home: What It Means To Me, My Family, And My Life
We bought our house five years ago, it is the first single family home I have lived in during my adult life. Yes, our house has wonderful stair parts and interior design, but the primary reason we decided to purchase this particular house was actually the lot. It was important to me and my husband to have some outdoor space and privacy. Our back yard is large enough for the kids to play ball. We have a privacy fence around the entire back yard and our lot backs to woods and a protected wetland area. The interior of the house is actually small but we have adjusted to the size and each family member has their own space. As I was growing up we moved rather frequently. As an adult I went through many personal challenges and also moved frequently. I actually ended up homeless at one point. Having this home gives me a sense of security. When I pull in the driveway I feel like I am protected from the trials of the outside world. My children are growing up in this house and have formed friends with the neighbors and play outside just about every day. I believe that they also have the sense of security from knowing they have a home to come to every day where they are comfortable and secure. I am very proud that I can provide that sense of security to my children and they are able to experience the stability I was not able to have when I was a child. When you have experienced homelessness, you understand that a house is much more than some bricks and boards. It is a place to find security and stability. Having a place to call home makes it easier to deal with all of the challenges of life.
